This year’s Great North Run 2025 wasn’t just about crossing the finish line — for East Durham Veterans Trust, it was about making a lasting difference in the lives of those who’ve served our country. With a team of passionate runners, volunteers, and supporters behind them, the Trust proudly raised over £12,000 to fund vital mental health support for veterans.

Running for a Cause That Matters

For many veterans, life after service comes with hidden battles. Mental health challenges such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety can often go unseen, but they’re deeply felt by those who have worn the uniform. East Durham Veterans Trust has long been committed to providing the care, resources, and community support veterans need to rebuild their lives.

By taking part in the world’s biggest half marathon, the team shone a spotlight on this important cause — showing veterans that they are never alone and that communities across the North East stand shoulder to shoulder with them.

£12,000 Raised – and Counting

The generosity of friends, families, local businesses, and the wider community helped push the fundraising total to over £12,000. Every pound raised will go directly towards supporting the Trust’s mental health initiatives, including counsell

ing services, peer support groups, and wellbeing projects designed to give veterans hope, resilience, and a brighter future.

The Trust extends heartfelt thanks to every runner who laced up their trainers, every volunteer who gave their time, and every supporter who donated and cheered along the way. Without this collective effort, such an incredible achievement would not have been possible.

Looking Ahead

While the Great North Run is over, the journey doesn’t stop here. East Durham Veterans Trust will continue its mission to be a lifeline for veterans across the region. And after such a successful event, the Trust is already looking forward to taking part in next year’s run, building on this momentum and making an even greater impact.

If you’d like to get involved, whether by running, volunteering, or donating, you can find out more by visiting the East Durham Veterans Trust website or following their social media channels. Together, we can keep supporting our veterans where it matters most.
