Earlier this month, a veteran took on the challenge of swimming the equivalent distance of the English Channel with some friends.
The man taking on this mammoth task was Chris Parish along with a group of his friends.
As a veteran himself, and a friend of our CEO Andy, Chris took on the challenge with the aim of raising as much money as possible for East Durham Veterans Trust to help us carry on the essential work we do within the veteran community.
The inspiration behind the challenge was the personal benefits Chris gets through exercise, he talks openly about how exercise not only helps him stay in good physical condition, but helps improve and maintain his mental wellbeing aswell.
The idea of the challenge was for each member of the group to swim 400 lengths of the pool at Bannatyne gym, which would all add up to a grand total of 22 miles, which is the equivalent of swimming the English Channel!
The event was a huge success as the team smashed through their goal and raised a fantastic £785 in the process through their go fund me page on Facebook.
Not content with just the swim however, Chris set himself the additional task of completing a half marathon at Penshaw in between his pool sessions! Some might say this was in preparation for the Great North Run he is taking on to raise even more money for us here at East Durham Veterans Trust.
I'm sure we can all agree that Chris' acheivement is remarkable and we would like to say a huge thank you for his efforts and his ongoing support.
