I'm Angie, the substance misuse practitioner at East Durham Veterans Trust. I served 22 years in the Army, I have done two operational tours in Northern Ireland and Bosnia. I have also served in Germany, Cyprus, London, Wiltshire, Bovington, Bulford. I spent five years in Germany, where I met my husband.

After leaving the army I became a prison officer for seven years, and worked in both HMP Wayland and HMP Guy’s Marsh. Whilst at HMP Wayland I trained as a drug and alcohol worker, I have been a substance misuse practitioner for the past 18 years.

I have always wanted to work with veterans, when I left the forces there was nowhere to go for support. I have always said that I would like to support veterans in any way that I can, so I became a volunteer with East Durham Veterans for a year.

I now work full time as the substance misuse practitioner and complimentary therapist for the trust, and I am living the dream!
